Volunteer Work & Association Activities

Here you can learn everything about volunteering and association work - discover, get involved, and help shape the future.

Volunteer work

Self-governance within pension schemes is a key element of pension provision for the liberal professions, based on voluntary commitment. Doctors and vets put their knowledge, time and motivation at the service of the community, play an active role in shaping important decisions and help ensure that the SÄV’s pension mandate is fulfilled reliably and responsibly. At the same time, they bring different perspectives to the table, which enrich our organisation and enable further development. Their commitment builds trust, strengthens communication with our members and forms the foundation for a vibrant and committed self-governance.

The voluntary bodies of the Sächsische Ärzteversorgung are supported by a full-time administration. Highly qualified staff handle day-to-day operations, ensure efficient organisational processes and are responsible for asset management. In doing so, they always act in accordance with the guidelines of the Administrative Committee and within the framework of the applicable Articles of Association, legal requirements and internal guidelines.

The Extended Chamber Assembly

The Extended Chamber Assembly comprises 113 elected representatives: 103 members of the State Medical Association and 10 members of the State Veterinary Association. Once a year in June, all elected representatives come together for an in-person meeting to discuss current issues, make decisions and help determine the strategic direction of the pension fund. The Extended Chamber Assembly thus forms the central forum at the heart of self-governance. Here, the professional bodies discuss their pension provision and take essential decisions in the interests of the solidarity-based community.

Association Work

The SÄV is a member of the Association of Professional Pension Schemes (ABV). This is the umbrella organisation for the statutory pension schemes under public law for members of the regulated liberal professions. In this capacity, ABV e.V. provides a platform for the exchange of information and experience between the pension schemes. It also represents their interests vis-à-vis politicians and other pension providers. In order to coordinate the specific interests of the professions, the SÄV is a member of the Standing Conference on ‘Medical Pension Schemes and Welfare’ of the German Medical Association and the ‘Standing Conference of Pension Schemes for Veterinarians’.
