Health and Long-Term Care Insurance While Receiving Benefits

We’re here to help ensure that your health and long-term care insurance benefits are paid out reliably and reach you directly.

Payment of contributions

The SÄV is obliged to forward information regarding the receipt of pension benefits to the relevant health insurance fund, a process known as the ‘paying agency notification procedure’. The relevant health insurance fund checks whether there is an obligation to pay contributions towards health and long-term care insurance from the pension payments. You will therefore receive a form for determining the health insurance fund along with the application documents. The same procedure also applies to the payment of contributions towards long-term care insurance. This is based on the contribution rate laid down by law for all long-term care insurance funds.

Procedure for registering paying agents with

If you are insured with a statutory health insurance fund, a distinction must be made between voluntary health insurance and compulsory pensioner’s health insurance (KVdR). The health insurance fund will determine which category you fall into based on your eligibility under insurance law. Members with statutory health insurance are legally required to participate in the paying agent reporting procedure.

If you have private health insurance, the Sächsische Ärzteversorgung will not deduct contributions via the paying agent reporting procedure. You must make the contribution payments yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Health and Long-Term Care Insurance

Can I switch to the statutory health insurance scheme when my pension starts?

To do this, you will need to contact your current health insurance provider to find out the conditions under which you can switch to the statutory health insurance scheme.

How much are the health insurance and long-term care insurance contributions deducted from my pension?

Questions regarding the obligation to pay contributions and the amount of health insurance and long-term care insurance contributions to be paid should generally be directed to the relevant health insurance fund, as the Sächsische Ärzteversorgung merely collects contributions from insured persons. The amount varies depending on the health insurance fund and the applicable supplementary contribution. Similarly, the long-term care insurance contribution depends on parental status and the year of birth.

I receive a pension from the DRV and a retirement allowance from the SÄV. Am I eligible for the health and long-term care insurance subsidy from the DRV?

To find out the answer to this question, please contact the German Pension Insurance (DRV), the body responsible for your pension. Provided you have met the 90 per cent rule, you can join the Pensioners’ Health Insurance Scheme (KVdR) and thus receive a health insurance subsidy from the DRV.

Why does the SÄV not provide a contribution towards health and long-term care insurance?

In general, the statutes of the Sächsische Ärzteversorgung do not provide for any contribution towards health and long-term care insurance – for either state or privately insured pensioners – as this contribution is reserved solely for pensions paid by the German Pension Insurance Fund. The Sächsische Ärzteversorgung and the statutory pension insurance scheme are separate systems, and the contribution is a benefit provided by the German Pension Insurance Fund for its own pensioners. The subsidy is funded entirely from tax revenue and, as the Sächsische Ärzteversorgung operates independently of federal subsidies, no subsidy can be granted.
