Reporting Requirements for Pension Recipients

We’ll show you how to easily meet your reporting requirements - and automatic reconciliation plays a key role for benefit recipients.

Certificate of Identity & Life

To verify eligibility for benefits, the SÄV has been participating in the death data reconciliation process with Deutsche Post Renten Service since 1 January 2023. Under this scheme, death notifications for pensioners residing in Germany are sent to us electronically. This supports our work and reduces overpayments of pensions to members who have already passed away. It ensures we receive the necessary notifications in a timely manner. However, pensioners and recipients of widower’s or widow’s benefits living abroad are required to submit proof of their status on a regular basis.

Regular submission of documentation

Recipients of a widow’s or widower’s pension from the SÄV are required to submit a certificate of identity or proof of life, together with evidence of their marital status, every two years.

Pensioners who do not have their permanent residence in Germany are required to submit a certificate of identity or proof of life every two years, which must be certified by the relevant consulate.
